It does not matter how good you are at what you do if nobody else knows. If you are just starting out and don’t have the money for a strong marketing campaign, you can still get noticed. Below are a few steps you can take to get your name out to the public without spending a lot of money.
- Blogs – Many blogs are free to use. I highly recommend WordPress because they are best at generating traffic to their hosted blogs. For only $15, they will even help you get your domain name. But even if you can’t afford the $15 for yourdomainname.com, you can still blog for free with yourdomainname.wordpress.com.
- BlogTalk Radio – BlogTalk Radio is a free internet radio show that you host. Each show host has its own dedicated phone number for guests to call in with questions and comments. The shows are archived minutes following the live show. The show host has to call in to a NYC number, but if you have a MagicJack* attatched to your computer, you can call the United States and Canada for free. The price of the MagicJack is under $30 and the first year is free.
- YouTube – YouTube allows you to post videos for free. You can use the video for anything from product demonstration to press releases.
- Social Networking - There are many social networks to consider. LinkedIn is a great social networking tool with fellow professionals in other fields. Services like myspace and facebook allow you to network with the gereral public.
* – MagicJack does not recommend using its product for BlogTalk Radio, but I have for months without incident.
When setting up your accounts with these services, have all your links connect to each other. For example, have your blog have links to your BlogTalk Radio show, your YouTube page, and your social networking sites.
